Monarchs Earn a Trio of USA South Honors

ROME, Ga.  Three Methodist student–athletes have been recognized by the USA South in the conference's latest round of Athletes of the Week. Kelsey Burge received a women's soccer honor, while Hannah Hewett and Blake O'Brien both earned volleyball honors.  
 
After logging three goals across two matches last week, Burge earned the title of Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the first time this season. The senior forward scored the first goal of the match against No. 2–ranked Christopher Newport University, making her the first player in eight games to score against the Captains' defense. In conference play, Burge helped her team defeat William Peace by a score of 3–0, recording the first multi–goal game of her career. She scored twice against the Pacers, with one of those goals being the eventual game–winner.
 
Named the Volleyball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, Hewett averaged 12.13 assists per set and exactly five digs per set in two wins for the Monarchs last week. The setter earned a double–double in both matches while achieving a career–high 61 assists in the five–set victory at home over Greensboro College.
 
Also earning her fourth honor of the season, O'Brien was named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. The senior libero averaged exactly seven digs per set in two matches last week along with 1.63 assists per set. She tallied season highs of 34 digs and eight assists in the five–set win against Greensboro while recording a match–high three service aces.
