FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Hosting a first-round game in the USA South Tournament, the Methodist women's soccer team secured a spot in the semifinals after a 1–0 win over Mary Baldwin on Saturday. With no goals allowed, the Monarchs recorded their fourth consecutive shutout against a USA South opponent.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just as these two teams did when they met during the regular season, the match remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Offensive opportunities came almost equally, with the Monarchs attempting six shots to the Fighting Squirrels' five. In goal for Methodist, Carolina Simpkins recorded two first–half saves.
- Methodist had two shots blocked and another saved during the first 16 minutes of the second half. On the team's fourth shot of the half, Gizelle Garcia struck the ball from roughly 24 yards out and watched it fade from left to right before bouncing past the Mary Baldwin goalkeeper.
- The Fighting Squirrels attempted just one shot in the entire second half, which was saved by Simpkins to preserve her clean sheet.

- The Monarchs are now 18–0 all time against Mary Baldwin and have held the Fighting Squirrels scoreless in their last five matchups.
