VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. For the second time in the span of 10 days, the Methodist men's basketball team handled business against Regent University, earning a win on Saturday evening. This time around, the Monarchs held on for a narrow victory, defeating the Royals by a score of 76–72.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A three–point basket gave Regent a 5–2 lead, but the Monarchs attacked with a 9–0 run that included a triple by David McCallum Jr. McCallum Jr. took charge, scoring Methodist's next eight points to give the Monarchs a 10–point advantage (19–9) with 12:30 left in the first half.
- The Royals clawed their way back, shrinking the gap to just two points, but the Monarchs scored 10 straight points before heading to the locker room to make it a 12–point difference. Jeremy Mull and Caleb Barreto hit back–to–back threes for Methodist in the final minute of the half, and both shots were created off a pass from Tomas Stevens.
- Methodist quickly scored to start the second half, with Zac Sledge and Ke Edwards both recording baskets in the first minute of the period to extend their team's lead to 16 points. The lead reached 19 after another basket by Edwards was scored with under 12 minutes left to play.
- With Methodist ahead 60–45, Regent's Christian Brown "flipped the switch," scoring 12 of his team's next 16 points to cut Regent's deficit back down to nine. Brown made his fourth three–pointer of the half with 49 seconds remaining, pulling the Royals within five. From there, the Monarchs won the free–throw battle and escaped with a four–point win before Brown had time to complete a comeback.

- David McCallum Jr. led all Methodist scorers with 15 points on 6–of–8 shooting. While it was just his third time suiting up for the Monarchs, it was undoubtedly his best performance this season.
- Ke Edwards notched his second double–double as a Monarch, scoring 12 points and collecting a game–high 13 rebounds.
- The Monarchs were huge on the glass, out–rebounding the Royals 44 to 24.
- Methodist attempted just seven shots from deep, but efficiently making four of those tries. Overall, the team shot 33–of–58 from the field, making over half their shots (56.9%).
UP NEXT
Methodist has a week to prepare for its next game which will be on Saturday, Dec. 7, when the Monarchs are set to host Warren Wilson College for a 4 p.m. tipoff. During the first meeting between these teams this season, Methodist earned a 76–68 road win.
