Offensive Struggles Lead Methodist to Loss at Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C.  Coming face to face with the Pfeiffer Falcons for the second time this season, the Methodist men's basketball team struggled offensively, coming up short in Wednesday night's game. The Monarchs shot just 37% from the field with no three-pointers on their way to a 92-63 loss to the home team.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Pfeiffer def. Methodist, 92-63
Records: Methodist 4-19 (2-11 USA South), Pfeiffer 9-12 (6-7 USA South)
Location: Merner Gym; Misenheimer, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pfeiffer jumped out to a 7-0 run that was capped off with a triple by Sean Sucarichi. Simultaneously, the Falcons held Methodist scoreless for nearly three minutes before freshman Ron Jones produced a layup. Over the next two minutes, Pfeiffer pieced together another 7-0 run amidst Methodist's streak of eight missed baskets from the field. The Monarchs scored seven of the next eight points, including a Zac Sledge dunk, but the score still stood at 15-9 in favor of the Falcons with 13:06 to go in the first half.
  • Pfeiffer's lead grew to as many as 11 points before the Monarchs cut it back to five. A jumper by De'Shaun Kee made the score 28-23, but the Falcons outscored Methodist 21-4 over the final seven minutes of the period.
  • Down by 22 points, the Monarchs kickstarted the second half with a 10-2 run, with six of those points off the hand of Derrion Hicklen. Pfeiffer's Doug Smith answered with dunks on his team's next two possessions, and with another layup, the Falcons went up by 20 with more than 15 minutes still to play.
  • The Falcons continued to outpace the Monarchs, answering every basket Methodist scored and earning trips to the free-throw line. Over the last four minutes, Pfeiffer built one more scoring run – this one 11-0 – before Aaron Potter delivered one final layup for the Monarchs.
 MORE TO IT
