Final results: Methodist def. Greensboro, 14-12
Records: Methodist 11-9 (3-1 USA South), Greensboro 13-7 (2-2)
Location: Truist Point; High Point, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two and half innings of play, as Brandon Mauger, Austin Rinzel, and Caleb Greene all registered an RBI. Methodist could have led 6-1 but Greensboro was able to cut down three potential Monarchs runs at home plate, two of which were on outfield assists by the Pride's right fielder.
- The Greensboro bats came alive in the third and fourth inning, to where the Pride scored six runs and took a 7-3 advantage.
- In the fifth, Methodist produced four runs to tie the ballgame at 7-7. An RBI double by Greene tallied the first run for the Monarchs, then a little later in the inning Hunter Hollman came up to the box with bases loaded. Hollman got a hold of a pitch he liked and split the gap between right & center for a double to clear the bases (3 RBIs).
- Greensboro got another run during its at-bats, in the fifth, to go back up 8-7.
- The Pride's lead did not last long as the Methodist offense came back up in the sixth and recorded five more runs. With a Monarch on every base, a costly Greensboro error allowed two Methodist runners to cross home. Afterwards, hits by Rinzel, Jackson Deal, & Hollman drove in an additional run, each getting an RBI, and put Methodist in front, 12-8.
- Following a scoreless seventh, the Greensboro offense struck again in the eighth inning and scored four runs to tie-up the scoreboard.
- In the ninth, Banks Hartman of the Monarchs led the inning off with a leadoff base hit. Cameron Seagroves would come on to pinch run for Hartman before Caleb Rogers advanced him on a sacrifice bunt. Up next was Brandon Mauger, who singled to center to put Methodist runners on the corners. Then during Banks Engle's at-bat, Seagroves scored the Monarchs' 13th run, while Mauger advanced all the way to third base, on a wild pitch by the Pride. Mauger eventually crossed home plate himself on a squeeze bunt single by Engle.
- After getting the last two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Chase Carroll came back out to the mound to close out the game. He was able to two of the first three Greensboro batters out before running into some trouble. Consecutive hits by the Pride would load the bases, but then Carroll got the final Greensboro batter to fly out to left.
