Monarchs Silence Pacers in 23-Goal Shutout

CARY, N.C.  The Methodist women's lacrosse team made light work of William Peace on Friday, scoring 23 times to the Pacers' none. The Monarchs are now winners of seven straight and boast a 3-0 record in USA South play.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Methodist piled on the goals quickly, scoring 10 times in the first quarter, including three goals by Mikayla Ramos.
  • Five more goals in the second quarter (two by Tia Marlinghaus) put the Monarchs ahead 15-0 at halftime. Defensively, Methodist held the Pacers to just one shot in the first quarter and none in the second period.
  • Payton Jones opened the third quarter with three-straight scores for Methodist, while Ramos tacked on one more in the quarter.
  • A four-goal fourth quarter finished off Methodist's 23-goal shutout. Layla Wiesenfeld scored the final two goals, completing her career-high, six-point performance.
FAST FACTS 
  • This is the second shutout the Monarchs have recorded this season, following a 17-0 win over Averett on March 12. It's the fourth shutout victory in program history.
  • Tia Marlinghaus led the team with a career-best eight points, scoring three goals and dishing out a career-high five assists. She's now one point shy of 100 career points.
