HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- With Alyssa Barwick in the pitcher's circle, the Monarchs held the Saints scoreless in the first two innings. In the bottom of the second, Methodist's Alyssa Rivas doubled to left-center field to drive in the first two runs of the ballgame.
- Barwick struck out her third batter of the game in the third inning, then allowed just one batter to reach base in the top of the fourth. After that baserunner attempted to steal second, Rivas (the catcher) threw the ball to Methodist's shortstop Virginia Crews, who tagged the player out. In the bottom of the fourth, a sacrifice fly by Madison Sanchez brought home Methodist's third run of the game.
- Alexandra Edwards began the bottom of the fifth inning with a leadoff triple down the right field line. Hannah Lovick stepped up next, batting Edwards in to put the Monarchs ahead 4-0. A few batters later and with Lovick on third, Rachel Blanchard launched a sac fly into left field, scoring Lovick for Methodist's fifth and final run.
- The Saints scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but the Monarchs prevailed behind a complete-game pitching performance out of Barwick.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- After the first two Marymount batters reached base successfully, Methodist pitcher Kiersten Margoupis forced the next two batters into outs. However, a single by the ensuing batter in the Saints' lineup sent one runner across home plate, putting Marymount up 1-0.
- The Monarchs answered in the bottom of the third. With two runners on, Grace Hobbs blasted the ball into left field for a double that scored both Edwards and Laney Ayers.
- The Saints tied the game with one run in the top of the fifth, but in the next frame, Blanchard recorded her second RBI of the day, allowing the Monarchs to retake the lead (3-2).
- With a 2-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth, Edwards added to Methodist's total. Then in the next inning with Marymount down to its final out, Margoupis struck out her third batter of the game to seal the victory.
