MISENHEIMER, N.C. For the first time in 11 days, the Methodist University women's basketball team returned to action as the Monarchs visited Pfeiffer University to face the Falcons in USA South Athletic Conference play. Methodist would take a one-point lead into halftime but then overpowered Pfeiffer in the second half to pick up a 63–51 victory inside Merner Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three straight baskets by Kayleen Grullon put the Monarchs in front 8-4 until back-to-back three-pointers by Kenadie Hudler would give the Falcons a two-point edge. Following an exchange of buckets, Methodist took a 14-12 advantage during the last two minutes of the opening quarter as Kiley Hicks and Eva McRae each recorded their first points of the contest.
- After heading into the second period down by two, Pfeiffer went up by two, 20-18, in the beginning stages of the new frame following an 8-4 run. Several minutes later, the tandem of Hicks and McRae combined for eight straight points, four each, and put the Monarchs back in front 28-23. The last couple of minutes of the first half saw the Falcons outscore Methodist 6-2 to make it a one-point deficit, 30-29, at the midway break.
- In the early stages of the third quarter, Aneesa Irizarry and Melissa D'Oleo recorded a couple of points to increase the Monarch's lead to 36-31. Soon after, Irizarry and Jillian Peterson scored another four points for Methodist, making it an eight-point ballgame. The Monarchs got their lead to as high as an 11-point difference, 47-36, but then, in the closing minutes of the third, Pfeiffer registered four straight points to get within three possessions of Methodist.
- The Falcons stayed within striking distance of the score, 55-48, during the first five minutes of the fourth quarter as both teams kept trading off points. Pfeiffer's hopes of a comeback ended after Methodist registered eight consecutive points, giving the Monarchs a 15-point advantage, 63-48, with less than two minutes left in the contest.

- Coming off the bench for Methodist, Hicks led all scorers with 15 points. She was also one rebound-shy of a double-double as she secured nine boards.
- Along with Hicks, other Monarchs that recorded double-digit points were Irizarry (13), Grullon (10), and McRae (10).
- Methodist dominated the backboard as the Monarchs hauled in 43 rebounds as a team compared to the 26 by Pfeiffer.

Methodist will still be away from Fayetteville for its next game on Saturday, February 1, as the Monarchs travel to Salem College. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
