HOW IT HAPPENED
- Regent opened the scoring with a pair of jumpers to take a 4–2 lead, but Methodist answered quickly. A three-pointer from Tre' Williams, followed by back-to-back layups from Dontavious Pettaway, sparked a 7–0 run that put the Monarchs in front 9–4. A few minutes later, Methodist stretched its advantage to 13–6 after O'Montae Daniels knocked down two free throws and Williams added a bucket.
- The Royals worked their way back into the game midway through the half. A three by Emani Langley trimmed the deficit to three, and Darrin Clark later buried another triple to tie the contest at 19. Pettaway scored four straight points to regain the lead for Methodist, but Regent responded again as Antoine Brown and Clark combined to even the score at 23–23. Over the final four minutes of the half, the Monarchs closed strong, outscoring Regent 10–6—highlighted by four points from Sean O'Connor—to take a 33–29 lead into the locker room.
- Methodist seized control early in the second half. Williams scored six of the Monarchs' first seven points after the break, pushing the lead to double figures at 40–29. After an exchange of baskets, Xavion White provided a spark off the bench, scoring four of Methodist's next eight points to extend the advantage to 52–36. From there, the Monarchs maintained their cushion, nearly matching Regent point-for-point over the final eight minutes to secure the victory.
