JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist def. Greensboro, 45–36
Records: Methodist 12–8 (7-4 USA South), Greensboro 4–14 (2-9)
Location: Hanes Gymnasium; Greensboro, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams struggled to score early in the ballgame as it took almost two and a half minutes before the first basket was recorded, a jumper by Aneesa Irizarry of Methodist. Two more baskets from Rebecca McGaughnea and Kiley Hicks gave the Monarchs a 6-2 advantage, but then, Greensboro registered a couple of quick shots to tie the score up at six all. A Hannah Evans' three-pointer allowed Methodist to go back in front again, and after a bucket by the Pride, Eva McRae made one last basket to put the Monarchs up by three, 11-8, heading into the second quarter.
- Following an exchange of points by both squads, Greensboro went on 5-0 scoring spurt to take its first lead the contest, 17-15. Those would be the last points the Pride scored in the period as Methodist closed out the second on a 7-0 run, including a last second three by Alyssa Shazer, to make it a five-point difference, 22-17, at the half.
- Out of the break, Greensboro controlled the third quarter and outscored the Monarchs 13-7. After the Pride recorded the first five points, Hicks registered Methodist first field goal of the second half to break up Greensboro run. Unfortunately for the Monarchs, the Pride tallied six more unanswered points to put them in front 28-24. With 30 seconds left in the period, Jillian Peterson knocked down her triple to cut the deficit down to one, 30-29, for Methodist.
- Early in the fourth, Nataya Atwater got those three points back for Greensboro after she made a shot from behind the arc. Soon after, a key block by Peterson proved to be the catalyst of the Monarchs' comeback run, as that play sparked a 10-0 run for Methodist with Kayleen Grullon (2), Destiny Richardson (2), Peterson (2), and McRae (4) contributing points. A layup by Meah Brooks brought the Pride back with four, 39-35, but then some late foul trouble sent the Monarchs to the free throw line to ice the game away.

- Irizzarry was another Monarch that had a good overall game as she led the team in rebounds (10), assists (5), and steals (4) to go along with her four points.
