Methodist Men's Tennis Rolls Past Guilford

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  The Methodist University men's tennis team had an impressive home performance on Wednesday afternoon, securing a decisive 6–1 victory over non-conference foe Guilford College at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The tandem of Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner on court two was the first doubles pair to finish, as they won 6-1, giving Methodist a 1-0 advantage toward the doubles point. Guilford then evened doubles after its No. 1 duo claimed a 6-3 victory.
  • This left the No. 3 flight, Drew Guarnieri and Ethan Carlyle of the Monarchs vs. Evan Wong and Rylan Tuten of the Quakers, to determine which team will take a 1–0 match lead. By a score of 6-3, Guarnieri and Carlyle were victorious.
  • In singles competition, Methodist asserted its dominance, capturing five of six matches to seal the overall win. The Monarchs No. 6 player, Christian Tihanovich, quickly won 6-1, 6-1 before Hurley picked up a 6-4, 6-0 dub on the first court. In between Methodist victories, Guilford won its lone singles flight at the No. 5 position, with a 6-3, 6-1 result.
  • The Monarchs returned to their winning ways at the No. 3 position, as Harry Crokam won 6-2, 6-4. On court two, Wills Belser battled through a competitive first set before pulling away for a 7-5, 6-1 victory, while Carlyle finished the overall match with a 6-3, 7-5 win in No. 4 singles.
