ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. Sixth-seeded Methodist University softball played its first game of the 2025 USA South Softball Tournament on Thursday, with the Monarchs falling 7–2 to Second-seeded, and host, North Carolina Wesleyan University at Edge Field.
THE ESSENTIALS
Final scores: N.C. Wesleyan def. Methodist, 7–2
Records: Methodist 14-26; N.C. Wesleyan 27-14
Location: Edge Field; Rocky Mount, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Battling Bishops wasted no time in claiming a commanding lead as they scored four runs in the first inning.
- After N.C. Wesleyan scored another run in the third inning, Methodist got on the scoreboard in the fourth to make it 5–1. Rachel Blanchard had herself a leadoff single before reaching second base on a wild pitch. Blanchard then came around to score on an RBI gap shot by Reilly Howell.
- In the fifth inning, the Battling Bishops extended it to 7–1 following a pair of walks, an error, and a sacrifice fly.
- The Monarchs made some noise in the seventh inning, as they scored a run and had runners on first and second with no outs. N.C. Wesleyan buckled down, though, and got the next three Methodist batters to get the win.
NUMBERS
- Blanchard and Hannah Lovick led the Monarch offense with two hits each. Just two RBIs were recorded by Methodist, one each for Lovick and Howell.
- The majority of the Monarchs' pitching staff was thrust into action, with Mia Wraight getting the start, followed by Emma Neeley and Kiersten Margoupis.
