ROME, Ga. – After freshman
Griffin Lawlor's first top five outing of his collegiate career, Lawlor ultimately fired No. 8 nationally-ranked Men's Golf's top 54-hole score of the two days at the Tartan Invitational, hosted by No. 6 nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, propelling himself to his third USA South Men's Golf Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the conference offices on Wednesday afternoon.
Round one at Laurel Valley Golf Club featured a handful of birdies for Lawlor, two on the front nine, with three on the back nine. Lawlor would tally a 72 (E) during the morning stanza before faltering slightly to close out day one with five bogeys in the second 18 for a 74 (+2) heading into the final round. Lawlor cruised in day two's final round, collecting three birdies on each side, matching a career-best 18-hole total of 71 (-1). He would eventually combine for a 217 (+1) individually for his top collegiate placement of fifth out of 90 golfers, with his tally being two-strokes shy of firing his prior 54-hole career-low of 215 (-1) which was set at the Gate City Invitational earlier this season.
