R0ME, Ga. The USA South announced its latest Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon, recognizing two Monarchs among the honorees. Methodist's
Michael Heis was named Baseball Pitcher of the Week, while
Jarius Fajardo earned the title of Men's Indoor Field Rookie of the Week.
Facing a Virginia Wesleyan lineup in the final game of a three-game weekend series, Heis dealt a career-best six strikeouts across six scoreless innings as Methodist's starting pitcher. The sophomore slinger allowed just three hits and conceded only one walk while also hitting one batter. He received credit for the win as the Monarchs claimed an 11–4 victory on the outing.
Competing at the VMI Winter Classic, Fajardo cleared a height of 1.95 meters in the high jump, recording his best jump this season. It's also the second-best mark in the USA South so far this season.
