HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist opened the contest with strong energy, as Kayleen Grullon scored the game's first basket to give the Monarchs an early edge. Southern Virginia used free throws in the closing seconds to take a narrow 11–9 lead into the second.
- The Knights created separation in the second quarter, opening on a 6–0 run fueled by transition opportunities and pressure defense. Methodist answered behind a pair of free throws from Giavonna Dunlap and a strong interior play from Jada Richardson to trim the deficit to seven, but Southern Virginia closed the half on a 10–1 surge to carry a 35–22 advantage into the break.
- Southern Virginia continued to build momentum in the third quarter, knocking down multiple three-pointers and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities. Despite baskets inside from Watford and Richardson, the Knights outscored Methodist 18–8 in the period to extend their lead to 53–30 heading into the final 10 minutes.
