USA South Accolades are Abundant for Monarchs in Latest Awards Announcements

R0ME, Ga.  The USA South weekly honors rolled in for Methodist student-athletes this week, beginning with eight individuals receiving Athlete of the Week recognition on Monday, then two more individuals earning Golfer of the Week accolades on Wednesday.   
 
After earning his first collegiate win against Piedmont University, Bryson Pope was named Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week. As the starting pitcher, he tossed six scoreless innings while conceding six hits and three walks, and he struck out two batters along the way.
 
In two games last week, Logan Garrett tallied seven goals and eight assists, setting him up to be named Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. The attackman had three goals and five assists in an 18–6 win over Averett University, then had four goals and three assists in a 22–2 win over conference foe Brevard College. Garrett also contributed two ground balls and one caused turnover during the two road wins.
 
With a 3–0 record at the No. 1 singles position and a 2–1 mark in doubles, Matthew Hurley earned the title of Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The senior earned wins against Salisbury University, Gettysburg College and York College (Pa.) while competing alongside Decklan Rayner for the doubles wins.
 
Going 2–0 in singles, Shea McCarthy claimed the title of Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week. The freshman collected a win against Gettysburg at the No. 5 spot, then won the No. 4 singles match against York.
 
Harry Crokam and Aaron Zoubek completed Methodist's sweep of the men's tennis honors, taking Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week with a 3–0 record at the No. 1 spot. The duo beat opposition from Salisbury, Gettysburg and York.
 
At 2–1 in No. 1 singles and 2–1 in No. 1 doubles, Emma Hulicki earned Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors. The junior defeated opponents from Gettysburg and York while teaming up with Shea Bieniek for doubles wins versus the same schools.
 
Bieniek was named Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for a 3–0 singles record and her 2–1 doubles record alongside Hulicki. The freshman beat opponents from Salisbury and Gettysburg at the No. 4 spot before conquering her competitor from York in the No. 3 singles match.  
 
Haden Ruby and Todd Moyer shared Men's Golfer of the Week honors, while Moyer was also named the Men's Golf Rookie of the Week. Both shot five strokes under par during the three-round Tiger Invitational in Pinehurst, North Carolina, tying for second place on the individual leaderboard and helping Methodist claim the team title. Ruby shot a one-over-par 73 in the first round, followed by a 70 in round two and a 68 in the final round. Moyer was the only Monarch to end each round below par, carding a 71 in the opening round with back-to-back 70s in rounds two and three.
