R0ME, Ga. The USA South Athletic Conference announced its weekly Athletes of the Week honors on Monday afternoon, with five Methodist University student-athletes recognized for their performances. The Monarchs earned three honors from their tennis programs and two from baseball.
After recording his first two collegiate victories,
Sean Jennison was named USA South Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week. Jennison's first win came against fourth-ranked Belhaven University, where he pitched a predetermined four innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out three Blazers. He followed that performance with four scoreless innings and two strikeouts in a seven-inning contest against Southern Virginia University.
Helping lead the Monarchs to a 3–1 record last week,
Austin Rinzel was named USA South Baseball Player of the Week. The junior delivered an outstanding offensive performance, batting .765 (13-for-17) while scoring 11 runs and adding six RBIs, two home runs, two walks, and two stolen bases. In a 15–10 win over fourth-ranked Belhaven, Rinzel went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, two RBIs, a walk, and a stolen base. During Methodist's USA South-opening series victory, taking two of three, over Southern Virginia, Rinzel combined to go 10-for-13 with seven runs scored, four RBIs, his first two collegiate home runs, and another stolen base.
For the second straight week,
Matthew Hurley earned USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors. The senior posted a 3–0 record at No. 1 singles and paired with
Decklan Rayner for a 3–0 mark in doubles. Hurley secured singles victories against Goucher College, Albright College, and Roanoke College while teaming with Rayner for doubles wins in each match.
Emma Hulicki was named USA South Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after compiling a 3–0 record at No. 1 singles and a 2–1 mark at No. 1 doubles. The junior earned singles victories against opponents from Goucher, Albright, and Roanoke while partnering with
Shea Bieniek for doubles wins over Goucher and Roanoke.
Bieniek also received recognition, earning USA South Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week. The freshman went 4–0 in singles and 2–1 in doubles alongside Hulicki. Bieniek collected singles wins against Goucher, Albright, and Roanoke at the No. 4 position and added another victory at No. 1 singles against McDaniel College.
