R0ME, Ga. The USA South Athletic Conference announced its latest Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon, recognizing four Methodist student-athletes for their recent athletic success.
Abigail Fritzsche,
Shea Bieniek,
Logan Wade and
Kamren Jenkins were the four Monarchs to earn accolades.
Earning her first weekly honor, Fritzsche was named Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week following a career performance that led the team in a 20-0 win over conference foe William Peace University. Fritzsche logged career highs six goals and three assists for a career-best nine points on the outing. She also contributed three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover.
For the third time this season, Bieniek has been named Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week. The freshman went 3–0 in singles matches at the No. 3 position, beating opponents from the University of Lynchburg as well as conference rivals North Carolina Wesleyan University and Salem College. Bieniek went 3–1 on the week at the No. 1 doubles spot alongside
Emma Hulicki, winning matches against Lynchburg, Salem, and Meredith College.
Earning his second honor of the academic year and first of the outdoor season, Wade claimed the title of Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week after setting a new program record in the men's 100-meter dash. Wade's time of 10.49 seconds in the preliminaries at the Adidas Trojan Challenge topped the previous record of 10.51 that was set by Michael Hill in 2009. Wade has the third-fastest time in the prelims and took third in the final with a time of 10.59.
Jenkins was named Men's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week for his performance in the triple jump at the Adidas Trojan Challenge. The freshman recorded a best mark of 13.74 meters, taking sixth place out of 15 jumpers.
