LYNCHBURG, Va. The Methodist baseball team stepped out of conference play Tuesday afternoon, traveling to face nationally ranked University of Lynchburg. The Hornets used several big innings to defeat the Monarchs 15–1 at James C. Fox Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lynchburg struck early in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs to take an early 3–0 lead. After a leadoff single put a runner on base, the Hornets capitalized on timely hitting and a Methodist miscue to plate the opening runs.
- The Hornets continued to add to their lead in the second and third innings, scoring two runs each time to extend the advantage to 7–0.
- Methodist broke through in the fourth inning to score its lone run of the contest. Senior Israel Ortiz reached base and later came around to score on an RBI single from senior Ethan Golemo, cutting the deficit to 5–1.
- Lynchburg responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs before breaking the game open in the fifth inning. The Hornets plated six runs in the frame, pushing their lead to 15–1 to secure the victory.
