HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
The first game of the afternoon was all Greensboro, with the Pride reaching a win in seven innings via mercy rule.
Blake Freeman and
Brandon Mauger recorded the only two RBIs of the contest for Methodist, while
Ethan Golemo scored on a wild pitch.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
Showing a much more competitive fight, the Monarchs scored the first two runs of the ballgame with an RBI double by Freeman in the first and an RBI double by
Kade Bell in the second. A 2-RBI hit for the Pride in the fourth inning tied the score at 2-2.
A timely Freeman homerun with
Austin Rinzel on base in the fifth inning put the Monarchs in front 4-2, but Greensboro's Trevor Testerman responded with a two-run blast of his own in the sixth, knotting the score at 4-4. In the bottom of the eighth, a sacrifice fly was all the Pride needed to bring the go-ahead run across the plate that would ultimately turn into the winning run.
STAT FACTS
Freeman finished the day 5-for-6 at the plate, driving in four runs on two doubles and a homer. Rinzel was the only other Monarch with a hit in both games. He batted 3-for-5 in Saturday's second loss, scoring two of Methodist's four runs.
