FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Methodist University Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Eavenson announced Monday the hiring of Christy Johnson as the department's new Associate Director of Athletics. Johnson officially began her role on July 6 in the newly created position, which is funded through the NCAA Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant.

"We are excited to welcome Christy Johnson to our athletics leadership team as Associate Director of Athletics," said DeeDee Jarman, Deputy Director of Athletics. "Christy brings a wealth of experience, a passion for student-athlete success, and a proven commitment to excellence both on and off the field. Her leadership, integrity, and dedication to building strong relationships will be tremendous assets to our department."

Johnson joins Methodist after spending the past year as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Administration at Barton College. Prior to Barton, she served at St. Andrews University from 2017-25 as Associate Director of Admissions, where she played a key role in student-athlete recruitment and retention. During her final two years at St. Andrews, Johnson also served as the institution's Senior Woman Leader, acting as the athletics department's second-in-command.

"I am grateful to both Vice President and Director of Athletics Eavenson and Deputy Director Jarman for the opportunity to join the longstanding academic and athletic traditions of Methodist Athletics," said Johnson. "I look forward to building strong relationships with the coaches, faculty, staff, and student-athletes at Methodist while contributing to the department's ongoing commitment to providing a first-class student-athlete experience—one that our entire campus community can be proud of."

Before moving into athletics administration, Johnson launched the softball program at Converse University in 2015, serving as the inaugural head coach. She arrived at Converse after spending three seasons (2012-15) as Associate Head Softball Coach at St. Andrews, where she also worked as the institution's Study Hall Coordinator and an Academic Mentor.

Earlier in her career, Johnson served as a graduate assistant at West Texas A&M University from 2010-12. During her tenure, the Lady Buffs captured the 2011 Lone Star Conference Championship and NCAA South Central Regional title while finishing with a 50-win season.

Johnson began her collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at Florida Institute of Technology during the 2009-10 season after serving one year as an assistant varsity coach at James Island Charter School.

As a student-athlete, Johnson spent two seasons at Aiken Technical College, where she earned 2006 Defensive Player of the Year honors and was named to the Region X All-Tournament Team. She also received NFCA Scholar-Athlete recognition in both seasons.
Johnson concluded her playing career at Charleston Southern University, where she earned Dean's List honors and was recognized as a CSU Scholar-Athlete.

Johnson earned her Associate of Arts and Science degree from Aiken Technical College in 2006 before receiving a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Charleston Southern in 2008. She later earned a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from West Texas A&M in 2012.

"We look forward to the positive impact she will have on our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire campus community," Jarman added.
