Women’s Golf Ranks Out 14th After First Day of Tartan Invitational

FARMINGTON, Pa. –  The Methodist University women's golf team wrapped up day one of the Tartan Invitational, hosted by No. 2 nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University playing in 36 holes of action at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort on the Shepard's Rock Course, which concluded on Monday afternoon with some teams second rounds not complete due to darkness arriving.

OPENING ROUND
  • Junior Cloe Rich topped Methodist in scoring to open the clash, collecting four birdies in her opening round to fire a 77 (+5). Round two featured an up-and-down showing for Rich, snagging three birdies on the back nine while finishing with double bogeys on the par-4 tenth and seventeenth to record a 79 (+7) in the afternoon stanza to total 156 (+12) through two rounds to place in T-57th on the leaderboard.
  • Junior Paige Wilkinson showed consistency in her first round, marking out with a birdie on the par-4 sixteenth, totaling an 81 (+9) in the first 18. Wilkinson added to her tally with an additional birdie on the par-4 sixteenth alongside the par-4 seventh, to improve by one shot in the afternoon with an 80 (+8), totaling a 161 (+17) to mark in T-72nd through two rounds.
  • Senior Anna Wicklum matched Wilkinson on the leaderboard, firing a season-best 18-hole round of 76 (+4) off her seven-hole par run. Wicklum would be the final score to count for Methodist in round two as she fired an 85 (+13), tallying a 161 (+17) for T-72nd position.
  • Junior Kiley Donovan's score did not count in the morning stanza, as she logged an 83 (+11) in the first 18 with a birdie on the par-4 tenth. Donovan would improve by four shots in the closing round, earning three birdies to collect a 79 (+7) in the afternoon, totaling 162 (+18) to rank out T-75th heading into round three.
  • Birdies on the par-3 twelfth and par-4 sixteenth would propel sophomore Julia Hashem to finish round one shooting an 82 (+10), improving by six strokes on the back-nine. Hashem's score would not count in the second stanza for the Monarchs, totaling a 90 (+18) to tally a 172 (+28) for T-89th through two rounds of play.
  • Freshman Kenley Baker made her collegiate debut this morning for Methodist as an individual, firing a 90 (+18) in the opening round. Baker would drop nine strokes in round two, recording her first collegiate birdie on the par-3 fifth to fire an 81 (+9), tabulating a 171 (+27) for 88th position through 36 holes.

The final 18-holes of the Tartan Invitational for the Monarchs will begin tomorrow morning, Tuesday, September 29th at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort with the shotgun start time slated for 8:30 AM in Farmington, Pa.
