Assistant Baseball Coach Tom Castello enters his second season with the Monarchs this year, after joining the staff in August 2019. His duties include coaching outfielders and hitters, as well as heading practice for the Developmental Team, and coaching first base on gameday.Â
In his position prior to Methodist, Castello (affectionately known as Coach Cash, a morphing of Coach Cas) was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for Lenoir Community College in Kinston, N.C. Success came quickly in his first season at LCC, as the Lancers started 9-0 on the back of the pitching staff, with the top three pitchers in the conference in ERA through 25 games, finishing 20-19 after a 4-41 season the year prior. In his tenure at LCC, Cash also had two NJCAA national pitchers of the week, one in each of his first two seasons. He was also fortunate enough to move players on to play for teams at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.Â
Prior to Lenoir CC, Cash coached at the high school level in Wake County, N.C. He has also coached summer baseball in the NCHSCA, and travel baseball at the 12U, 14U, and 16U levels. Originally from Long Island, he coached little league as well as taught in an indoor facility for nearly a decade.Â
Coach Cash lives in Johnston County with his wife and three children, along with Stella and Rosie, their two Bullmastiffs.
