Mike Bonnell was selected to serve as Methodist University men's tennis coach to kick off the 2011 season. Bonnell's inaugural season featured a 14-7 overall record and a fourt- place finish in the USA South Athletic Conference. Following five years at the helm, Bonnell boasts an overall record of 80-27 (.748) at Methodist.
In 2012-13, he led MU to a 17-3 overall record, including a 16-match winning streak to start the season. He followed that up with a 19-7 record in 2013-14 en route to being named the USA South Coach of the Year while also coaching Duncan Miller to USA South Player of the Year honors. Most recently, his team finished 13-5 in 2014-15.
In all, Bonnell has coached 16 all-conference honorees with one USA South Rookie of the Year and one USA South Player of the Year.
Bonnell previously spent six seasons at the helm of the Ohio Dominican University men's and women's tennis programs. During his tenure with the Panthers, Bonnell led teams to postseason play every year and produced five nationally ranked players. In 2005, he was named the American Mideast Conference South Division Women's Coach of the Year.
Prior to joining the Methodist staff, Bonnell has also served as a tennis professional at the Wickertree Tennis Club and the New Albany Tennis Center in Ohio.
Bonnell earned a bachelor's degree in communications/public relations from Ohio Northern University where he competed on the men's tennis team and was ranked nationally as high as No. 9.
