John Newman

John Newman returns for his fourth season at Methodist in 2014 and fifth overall in two stints at the school. He returned to MU for the 2011 season after previously assisting with the program during the 2002-03 year. Since his return to Fayetteville, the Monarchs have had three All-USA South pitchers and as well as one USA South Freshman Pitcher of the Year selection, Kayla Malone (2012).

During Newman’s first season with the Monarchs, the team established a new program record for wins in a season with 38 and finished as the runner-up in NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional. This standard would eventually be broken by the 2006 Methodist softball team as it went 39-8.

In the 2003 campaign, Methodist finished 13th in the final NCAA Division III poll. Overall that season featured six All-DIAC selections, six NCAA Division III All-Region selections and one NCAA Division III All-American.

Between his first stay and his current post at Methodist, Newman worked as an assistant coach at University of the Ozarks (2006-2009), and served as the director of Tiger Softball Camps Operations for the University of Missouri (2009-2010). Additionally he was an assistant coach with St. Louis Community College-Meramec (2009-2010).

Newman is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
