Brandon Blanton

Brandon Blanton enters his fifth season with the Methodist University track and field program. Blanton specializes in the throws for the Monarchs. Since joining MU's coaching staff, he has overseen 12 individual conference champions and one NCAA qualifier. Additionally seven school records have been broken, and there have been 19 All Mason-Dixon performances during Blanton's tenure at Methodist. In 2014-15, freshman Koffia Lipscomb set a new school record in the 35 lb. weight throw (14.04 meters), and freshman Brad Smith set a new mark in the discus (46.48 meters).

The former Northern High School athlete competed in both football and track for the Knights. Blanton went on to Gardner-Webb University where he threw shot, discus, and hammer. In 2006 he was part of a conference championship for the Bulldogs. Blanton received a B.S. degree in Health and Wellness.
 
After competing on the collegiate level Blanton returned to his alma mater to coach track and field specializing in the throws. He was a throws coach until 2010 and then he took over the women’s team and was named head coach. Blanton coached a total of 12 regional qualifiers, two state qualifiers, as well as a conference championship in his four year stint at Northern High School.
