Phil Schuman joined the Monarchs as head women's lacrosse coach for the 2011season.
He went on to lead the women to a 4-10 mark overall while finishing at 3-4 in the USA South Athletic Conference. Schuman coached two First Team All-Conference players in Jasmine Stephens and Ashlea Weems.
A graduate of Washington College (Md.), Schuman was a member of the conference champion Shoremen and most recently spent two years as an assistant with the women's lacrosse team.
An All-State goalkeeper in high school, Schuman joined the nationally ranked Washington College men's program. Following graduation, he spent time teaching at the high school level before returning to the sidelines at Washington. Schuman was involved in all aspects of the women's lacrosse program including recruiting and working with the team's defense and goalkeepers.
The lacrosse team is the youngest program in the Methodist athletic department competing for the first time in 2002. The team won a share of the 2005 USA South Championship and won a program-high 11 wins in 2006.
Schuman earned his bachelor's degree in history before recently completing his master's degree from Washington College in July 2010.
