Sofia Franzoni begins her first year at Methodist University in the fall of 2026 as an assistant athletic trainer. She serves as the primary athletic trainer for the Monarch men's and women's soccer programs and the softball team.
Franzoni joins the Methodist sports medicine staff after spending the 2025-26 academic year as an Athletic Training Intern at the United States Naval Academy, where she provided care for the baseball, rowing, and ice hockey programs.
Prior to her time in Annapolis, Franzoni completed her graduate education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. During her clinical rotations, she worked with UNCW men's basketball, UNCW volleyball and beach volleyball, University of Florida football, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. In addition to her clinical experience, she served as both a teaching and research assistant, conducting original research focused on neurodivergence in collegiate athletics.
Franzoni earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she spent the 2022 season working with the Tar Heel football program. She later received her Master of Science in Athletic Training from UNCW in May 2025.
Franzoni is a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer and is licensed by the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners (NCBATE).
