Dr. Javier Pabón grew up playing tennis on the South American clay. He played and coached at Academia Internacional de Quito, where he was able to hit with several future professional tennis players and attended numerous clinics, including a couple with legendary coach Nick Bollettieri.
As a junior player, Javier played in the state, national, and regional tournaments in South America. Later he was part of his college men’s tennis team.
He is a volunteer assistant coach for the women’s tennis team at Methodist University, where he is an associate professor of Spanish, and chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literature. In his first season as a volunteer assistant, Pabón helped Methodist to a 10-5 overall record in a season cut short by COVID-19.
