Anthony Lunsford Jr. was hired in the summer of 2026 as an assistant coach for the Methodist women's basketball team, after spending the past two seasons as the head coach at Wake Technical Community College. Prior to taking over as head coach, he served as an assistant coach with the Wake Tech women's basketball program.
Before his time at Wake Tech, Lunsford served as the head women's basketball coach at Johnston Community College during the COVID-19 pandemic and the seasons surrounding it. He previously returned to the collegiate ranks as an assistant women's basketball coach at Fayetteville State University, where he spent three seasons.
Lunsford has also held positions at the high school level, serving as both the girls' head basketball coach and athletic director at Paul R. Brown Military Leadership Academy. He previously held the same roles at Alpha Academy in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He also coached the girls' basketball team at Fayetteville Christian Academy while serving with the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Prior to September 11, 2001, Lunsford served as an assistant coach at both Saint Augustine's College and Saint Paul's College. In addition to his extensive coaching career, he has experience as both a professional basketball player and coach overseas, competing in Europe and Central America.
One of Lunsford's most meaningful coaching experiences came with the U.S. Army wheelchair basketball team, where he served as head coach during the first three Warrior Games at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Upon returning to Fayetteville, Lunsford continued his involvement in basketball as the head coach and co-owner of the Fayetteville Flight semi-professional men's basketball team. He later served as co-owner and head coach of the Fayetteville Crossover semi-professional men's basketball team, continuing his commitment to the Fayetteville basketball community.
