NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport took an early lead Saturday evening and went on to take the 3-0 win.

Emily Chesbro scored in the fifth minute of the game to give the Captains a 1-0 lead.  Christopher Newport held onto the 1-0 lead at halftime and took a 2-0 lead in the 66th minute on a goal from Kendall Dishaw on the assist from Vicki Fessler.  Kasey Nichols made a diving save with less than 15 minutes to go, but the Captains capitalized on the rebound to score their third goal.

Nichols finished with five saves while Christopher Newport goalkeeper Dineen Sampson had three stops.

The Monarchs will travel to Greensboro on Wednesday for a 3 pm kickoff.
