GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Methodist volleyball team started off strong in the first set, but Greensboro came from behind to win 25-27. The Monarchs rebounded to win the second set but lost the match 1-3 (25-27, 25-22, 17-25, 19-25). Methodist moves to 11-11 overall and 5-7 in the USA South while Greensboro improves to 12-12 overall and 8-4 in the conference.
An ace from freshman
Jalesty Washington gave Methodist an 8-3 lead in the first set and the Monarchs cruised to a 24-16 lead, but the Pride came back to tie the set at 24. Methodist went up 25-24, but fell 27-25. Greensboro started off the second set with the first four points, but Methodist came back to take the lead. Freshman
Kelsey Yates took over to serve with Methodist down 20-22, but the Monarchs won five straight points to win 25-22.
Greensboro took over in the third set and took an 11-17 lead. Methodist moved to 14-17, but the Pride went on to win 17-25. In the fourth set, the score was tied on eight different occasions but Greensboro went on to win 25-19.
Washington led the Monarchs with 11 kills while senior
Sara Yeatman had eight kills. Junior
Taylor Cates and junior
Allison Averitt had seven kills a piece. Freshman Melissa Mott had 16 assists and junior
Kelsey Carter added 11. Yates led the defense with 15 digs.
The Monarchs will play at Trinity (D.C.) Oct. 18.
