FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Birmingham-Southern scored early and went on to take the 5-2 win over the Methodist women's soccer team Saturday afternoon. Methodist falls to 1-4 this season while Birmingham-Southern improves to 3-2-1.
The Panthers scored the first goal of the game in the eighth minute on a first-time finish after the cross from the end line. They scored again passing through the defense to take the 2-0 lead in the 21
st minute. Freshman
Lauren Colenda put the Monarchs on the board with a shot to the far post on the assist from junior
Whitney Roberson.
Birmingham-Southern scored ten minutes into the second half on a shot inside the six yard box. They scored back-to-back goals in the 61
st and 62
nd minute to take the 5-1 lead. Sophomore
Kate Ramsay fed Roberson for a goal in the 80
th minute. The Monarchs made a late push, but the Panthers held on to the 5-2 win.
Freshman
Sara Altman made 11 saves for Methodist while Ruth Hanks and Jillian English combined for three saves for the Panthers.
Methodist will travel to Guilford on Wednesday for a 4 pm kickoff in a make-up game.
