FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Monarchs tied Greensboro at one, but the Pride won the next two sets to earn the 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25) match win over Methodist. Methodist moves to 6-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference while Greensboro is 5-8 overall and 1-0 in the USA South.
The first set went the distance with Methodist taking a 22-21 lead on freshman
Jalesty Washington's service ace. Both teams exchanged points with senior
Sara Yeatman getting the kill to tie the set at 25. Greensboro scored the next two points to win 27-25. Methodist controlled the second set taking an early 10-6 lead. The Pride battled back and the score was tied at 20 before Methodist won the next five out of six points to win 25-21 on Washington's kill.
Methodist fell behind in the third set 20-12, but freshman
Kelsey Yates served up four points to help the Monarchs close the gap to three. Methodist moved to within one point at 23-22 and 24-23, but a kill from Greensboro's Sha McDuffie gave the Pride the 25-23 win. The Monarchs struggled out of the gate in the fourth set allowing Greensboro to take the 18-10 lead. Junior
Laura Gilbert scored with the kill to help Methodist move to 20-15, but the Pride finished with the 25-18 for the match victory.
Washington led the Monarchs with 12 kills while Yeatman had 11. Junior
Kelsey Carter had 34 assists while junior
Jordan Grady led with 16 digs.
The Monarchs will take the road this weekend for two USA South events at Ferrum and Shenandoah.
