FERRUM, Va. - The Methodist volleyball team lost 0-3 (19-25, 18-25, 22-25) to Ferrum and then fought hard to a 1-3 loss (18-25, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25) to #21 Christopher Newport. Methodist moves to 6-7 overall this season and 0-3 in the USA South.
Methodist took an early lead in the first set against Ferrum, but the Panthers used an 8-0 rally to take the 21-16 lead and finished with the 25-19 win. Ferrum jumped out to a quick 10-5 lead over the Monarchs in the second set and went on to win 25-18. Methodist battled back in the third set, pushing it to 24-22 with a service ace from freshman
Courtney Benton, but Ferrum finished with the 25-22 win.

Allison Averitt each had 11 kills a piece while junior
Kelsey Carter had 18 assists. Freshman
Kelsey Yates had 10 assists and junior
Jordan Grady led with 14 digs.
In the second match of the day, Christopher Newport took the early lead on a 25-18 win in the first set. Methodist was down by six in the second set and moved within four, but the Captains won 25-20. Methodist battled back to prevent the shutout with a 25-22 win in the third set, but Christopher Newport closed the match on a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
Senior
Sara Yeatman led the team with eight kills while Washington and Averitt had six a piece. Freshman Melissa Mott dished out 24 assists while Grady had 20 digs and Yates had 16.
The Monarchs will face Shenandoah and Averett Saturday at Shenandoah.
