WINCHESTER, Va. - The Monarchs defeated Shenandoah 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) in the first match of the day and came back to beat Averett 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-22) after dropping the first set. Methodist moves to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the USA South while Shenandoah is 3-6, 0-2 and Averett is 2-10 and 1-1.
Methodist made quick work of Shenandoah in the first set with a 25-19 win. They won 25-21 in the second set before Shenandoah pushed the third set to 26-24 before the Monarchs won match point. Junior
Allison Averitt led the team with 10 kills while freshman
Jalesty Washington and senior
Sara Yeatman had seven a piece. Freshman Melissa Mott had 25 assists while junior
Jordan Grady led with 12 digs.
The Monarchs lost 23-25 to Averett in the first set, but came back and won the next three to take the 3-1 win. Washington had eight kills while Yeatman and Averitt had seven a piece. Mott added 21 assists and freshman
Kelsey Yates had nine digs in the win. Washington finished with three solo blocks and five block assists.
The Monarchs will play at Meredith Wednesday at 7 pm.
