FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team started off the USA South tri-match with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19) win over the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels.  They came back and defeated Peace 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 14-25, 25-16).  Methodist improves to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in the USA South.

In the first match against Mary Baldwin, Methodist jumped out to a quick 18-8 lead over the Squirrels backed by a 10-0 run behind the serving of senior Sara Yeatman.  The Monarchs took advantage of two final attack errors by Mary Baldwin to win 25-13.  Methodist took the early 9-2 lead in the second set, but Mary Baldwin pushed it to 18-15 before the Monarchs finished with the 25-18 win.  The Squirrels took control in the third set with an 18-7 lead.  Methodist battled back to move within three at 21-24, but Mary Baldwin sent a kill home to win 21-25.  In the fourth set, the score was tied at 9-9, 14-14 and 15-15 before Methodist freshman Jalesty Washington had three kills to help the Monarchs to the 25-19 win.

Yeatman led the team with 16 kills while junior Allison Averitt had 15 kills and Washington added 10.  Junior setter Kelsey Carter had 44 assists and freshman #Kelsey Yates had 23 digs.

Peace defeated Mary Baldwin in the second match of the day before the Monarchs prepared to play Peace.  Yates started off the match with three consecutive service aces for the 3-0 lead.  The Monarchs had a 24-9 lead but could not get the set point.  The Monarchs finished with the 25-16 win.  In the second set, the score was tied at ten, but Methodist went on to take the 25-17 win.  The Monarchs struggled in the third set and lost 14-25, but came back made quick work of things to win the fourth set 25-16 for the match.

Yeatman added another 16 kills to her season total and Washington had 10 kills.  Yates had 22 digs to go along with five service aces.  Washington had five aces to add to the team's 15 total aces in the match.  Carter had 33 assists while freshman Melissa Mott finished off with 11 assists.
