FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first 27 minutes of play and finished with the 4-1 victory. The Monarchs move to 5-5 on the season while Bridgewater falls to 3-6-1.
In the sixth minute of the game, freshman
Danielle Minichello took a free kick just outside the box and hit it off the cross bar and into the goal for the 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, sophomore
Faye Charles fed freshman
Jillian Reed with the pass. Reed found Minichello who scored her second goal of the game. In the 12th minute, Charles fed Minichello to complete the hat trick. Methodist scored their fourth goal of the game after junior
Whitney Roberson's shot went off the post and came back to Reed for the finish.
Bridgewater's Ashley Andes snuck a goal in just before halftime, but the second half finished scoreless for Methodist to take the 4-1 win.
Methodist goalkeepers
Kasey Nichols and
Sara Altman split time combining for nine saves while
Christine Ellington made a header save off the line midway through the first half.
Shauna Marovich and Brooke Barham had five saves for Bridgewater.
The Monarchs will host Averett on Saturday at 1 pm.
