FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Monarchs took a three set victory over Salem College Wednesday night (25-13, 25-20, 26-24). Methodist improves to 3-1 while Salem drops to 0-5.
Senior Sara Yeatman started the Monarchs off with a kill and served the next four points for a 5-0 lead. The Spirits went on a seven point rally to take the lead, but the Monarchs came back to win 25-13. In the second set, Methodist took a 9-3 lead and reached set point at 24-15, but Salem battled back to 24-20 before freshman Jalesty Washington finished with the kill on the assist from junior Kelsey Carter. Salem had the advantage in the third set with an 11-5 lead, but the Monarchs came back and tied the game at 13-13. Methodist led 24-22, but the Spirits forced it to 25-24 before freshman Kelsey Yates served the match point for the Monarchs.
Junior Taylor Cates and Washington each had seven kills and Yates added five kills. Carter led the team with 20 assists in two sets. Junior Jordan Grady paced the Monarchs with 11 digs.
The Monarchs will compete in the Maroon Classic at Roanoke on Friday and Saturday.
