FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team used full court pressure to hold the Meredith Avenging Angels to just 46 points as the Monarchs prevailed 58-46 Thursday night.

Methodist (7-3, 2-1) took an early 12-5 lead on a jumper from senior Zan Messer with 12:32 to go in the first half.  Meredith (4-10, 0-7) moved within one point, but the Monarchs responded with a 17-4 run to extend their lead.  Methodist held the 33-21 lead at halftime.

The Monarchs increased their lead to as many as 17 points in the second half, but the Angels slowly crept back in reach.  Methodist was ahead by five with less than three to play, but free throws and defensive pressure allowed the Monarchs to finish with the 58-46 win.

The Monarchs had four players in double figures with senior Dezzire Gilliard, sophomore Adriana Wilson and junior Michaela Myers all leading with 14 points.  Senior Amanda Underwood had 12 points.  Gilliard led the team in rebounding with nine boards.

Methodist will travel to Ferrum on Saturday for a 2 pm tipoff.
