RALEIGH, N.C. – Peace College made a late run, but the Monarchs' last second layup gave Methodist the 70-69 win.

Sophomore Adriana Wilson scored the first two baskets of the game to give Methodist (9-5, 4-3) the 4-0 lead.  Peace 7-10, 4-7) came back and tied the game at eight before jumping out to a 15-9 lead with 10:35 to go in the first half.  Free throws from senior Dezzire Gilliard and a 3-pointer from senior Amanda Underwood tied the game at 15.  The game was tied five more times during the first half before the Monarchs took a 31-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Peace scored first in the second half, but sophomore Dawn Sanderson's jumper at 17:57 gave Methodist the 37-32 advantage.  The Pacers tied the score at 39 and 42 before the Monarchs built up a seven point lead.  Peace moved within one on two different occasions, but a 3-pointer from junior Michaela Myers with 3:40 to go gave Methodist the 68-61 lead.  The Monarchs went scoreless over the next three minutes as the Pacers moved within one point with 35 seconds to go in the game.  Peace got the ball back after a missed free throw and the Monarchs were called for a foul sending the Pacers' LeAnne Horne to the free throw line with 20 seconds on the clock.  Horne sank both to give Peace the 69-68 lead.  Methodist brought the ball the length of the court and had two shot attempts before Peace knocked the ball out of bounds to give the Monarchs the ball on the sideline.  Methodist had another shot attempt that bounced off the rim before Underwood grabbed the rebound and shot an off balance layup that rattled around before scoring with 0.9 seconds left on the clock.  Peace inbounded the ball, but their half court shot came up empty for the Monarchs to win 70-69.

Gilliard led the Monarchs with 23 points and 15 rebounds while Underwood scored 16 points.  Wilson finished with 12 points and Sanderson added 11 points.

The Monarchs will travel to N.C. Wesleyan on Tuesday for a 5:30 pm tip-off in Rocky Mount, N.C.
