FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington used a goal in the 25th minute to upend the Methodist women's soccer team 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

Mary Washington (9-3-3) fired off the first three shots of the game before the Monarchs (8-6-1) were able to counter with a shot from senior Whitney Roberson in the 18th minute. The Eagles drew a corner kick opportunity and scored what would be the game's only goal in the 25th minute of play.

Methodist fired off five shots in the game, but Mary Washington goalkeeper Tina Brehm finished with three saves to preserve the shutout. The Monarchs' Kasey Nichols had five stops in goal.

Methodist will the non-conference portion of their season tomorrow at Lynchburg College at 4 pm.
