WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team competed in a non-conference tri-match at Salem College on Saturday where they went 1-1. The Monarchs dropped their first match 0-3 (13-25, 21-25, 34-36) before coming back and winning 3-0 over Salem (25-21, 25-12, 25-12).
In the first match against Guilford, the Monarchs started slowly and lost the first set 13-25. The second set was closer, the Quakers took the 0-2 lead after winning 21-25. The third set was a battle, but Guilford outlasted the Methodist 34-36.
Stephanie Wood led the team with 12 kills while
Taylor Cates added 11 and
Jalesty Washington finished with eight.
Kayci Miller had 37 assists and 12 digs.
Jordan Grady led with 14 digs while
Kelsey Yates added 10.
The Monarchs (15-7) bounced back in their second match over Salem. The first set was a 25-21 victory before cruising through the second and third sets 25-12. Washington paced Methodist with 13 kills while Wood added nine. Miller had 28 assists while Grady led the team with six digs.
Methodist will be back in USA South conference action on Tuesday at Meredith with the first serve slated for 7 pm.
