FAYETTEVILLE, NC. - Methodist came out strong against Averett to take a 5-1 victory over the Cougars.
Averett (4-5, 1-2) scored first in the fourth minute of the game when Hillary Wood beat the defender to get a shot in the left corner of the goal.
Danielle Minichello responded for the Monarchs in the 9th minute when she challenged the keeper and snuck a shot into the corner. Minichello scored again in the 30th minute with a header off a corner kick by
Kelly Orpin. Towards the end of the first half
Lindsey Oliphant had a shot on goal and freshman
Brooke Corley scored off the rebound.
Almost twelve minutes into the second half
Jillian Reed scored the Monarch's fourth goal off of a shot to the right corner. With less than five minutes left in the game
Maeve Harper scored on a header off a corner kick by
Michelle Anderson. Methodist out shot Averett 17-1.
Samantha Lupo finished with eight saves for the Averett Cougars.
The Methodist women's soccer team will face Ferrum tomorrow at home at 2 pm.
