GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team used an 11-point lead at halftime to hold on for the 62-49 win at Greensboro College.
Neither team had the advantage early with the score tied at 11 through the first five minutes. Senior
Michaela Myers hit and junior
Adriana Wilson hit 3-pointers to give Methodist (4-3, 1-0) the 27-19 lead. A layup from senior
Dezzire Gilliard extended the lead to 14, before the Monarchs took a 35-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Greensboro (1-3, 0-1) came out and cut the lead to three midway through the second half, but Methodist responded with back-to-back baskets from Gilliard. The Pride moved within five with less than seven minutes to play, but Wilson and Myers came back with threes once again to put the game out of reach. The Monarchs finished with the 62-49 victory for their first win in USA South Conference action this season.
Myers led the team with 18 points while Gilliard had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Wilson scored 12 points and junior
Dawn Sanderson had 10.
