RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist Monarchs overcame a halftime deficit to roll past the Meredith Angels 84-68.
The score was tied at 10 early in the first half before Meredith (5-18, 1-15) built up a seven point lead with 3:29 to go. Methodist (14-7, 9-5) moved within one point at halftime with an offensive rebound and putback from senior
Amanda Underwood in the final seconds. The Monarchs trailed 30-29 at the break after shooting 0-for-7 from behind the arc.
Senior
Dezzire Gilliard put Methodist on top to start the second half and the score was tied at 33. Underwood responded with her first of four 3-pointers helping Methodist build a 10 point lead. The Avenging Angels came back and tied the game at 48, but the Monarchs went on a 10-2 run to rebuild their lead. Methodist built up a 19 point lead before finishing with the 84-68 win.
Gilliard led the team in scoring with 23 points and 13 rebounds while Underwood finished with 22 points.
The Monarchs will host Peace on Saturday in a "Pink Zone" game at 2 pm.
