NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport took the early lead and took the 54-43 win over the Methodist women's basketball team.

The score was tied at seven before the Captains went on a 9-0 run to take control of the game early.  Christopher Newport led by as many as 13 points in the first half before Methodist started to cut into the lead. Senior Zan Messer hit a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining to move the Monarchs within eight points at the break.

Through the first five minutes of the second, Methodist cut the lead to six, but the Captains built a 15 point lead over the next ten minutes. The Monarchs scored the last  four points of the game, but Christopher Newport prevailed with the 54-43 win.

Junior Michaela Myers led the Monarchs with 11 points while senior Dezzire Gilliard scored eight points.

The Monarchs will play at Shenandoah on Saturday at 4 pm in the final game of the regular season.
