FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team avenged an earlier loss with an 86-71 win over Ferrum College Saturday afternoon.
Methodist (12-7, 7-5) jumped out to an early 16-8 lead after junior
LaQuanza Alexander hit a 3-pointer with 12:09 remaining in the first half. The Panthers (14-5, 10-2) took their first lead of the game with 3:55 to go, but Methodist senior
Amanda Underwood responded with a 3-pointer for the Monarchs to regain the lead. Ferrum hit a late 3-pointer to hold the 40-38 advantage at halftime.
The Panthers built up a four point advantage, but the Monarchs went on a 20-4 run to take control of the game. Alexander hit her second 3-pointer of the game with 7:43 to go to build the 17 point cushion. The Monarchs led by as many as 19 points before Ferrum made one last push. The Panthers cut the lead to nine with 1:49 left on the clock, but the Monarchs converted on free throws to finish with the 86-71 victory.
Underwood led the team with 19 points while sophomore
Adriana Wilson had 18 points. Senior
Dezzire Gilliard and junior
Michaela Myers added 10 a piece while Gilliard led with 14 rebounds.
The Monarchs will host Averett University on Tuesday at 5:30 pm in conjunction with
"Take a Kid to the Game" day.
