KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Methodist University softball team had a strong 4-2 win over Maryville University of St. Louis before dropping a 3-0 game to Misericordia in the final day of the Rebel Games.

Methodist took the early lead in game one when Caline Daun drew the leadoff walk in the bottom of the third. Kayla Talbert singled and Sara Poling followed up with a RBI single for Daun to score the Monarchs' first run of the game.

Maryville came back and scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take the 2-1 lead, but Methodist responded in the bottom of the inning. Cortney Kerns led off with a bunt single and stole second. Crystal Metzger singled to put runners on first and third when Daun laid down the perfect suicide squeeze for Kerns to score on a close play at the plate. Talbert reached on a fielder's choice for Metzger to score allowing the Monarchs to regain the lead. Brittany Melton drew the walk and Darci Martin reached on an error for Talbert to score. Methodist finished with the 4-2 win. Lesley Hewitt picked up the win in the circle scattering six hits with eight strikeouts.

In game two, Methodist had an opportunity to score in the first inning when Metzger drew the leadoff walk and Melton sacrificed her to second. Metzger moved to third on Talbert's groundout and attempted to score on a wild pitch, but was called out at the plate.

Maryville had two outs in the bottom of the sixth when a runner reached on an error. Hollie Sarnak singled and Nicole Hoskins hit a three-run homerun to right centerfield for the 3-0 win. Katie Eiden retired the next three Methodist batters in the top of the seventh to win the game and record a no-hitter. Alex Bass pitched for the Monarchs allowing just five hits.

Methodist will be back in action against Bridgewater next week at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
