MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team traveled to Chowan University on Tuesday and picked up a 2-0 win for their first victory of the season.
The Monarchs (1-0) out shot the Hawks (0-1) 7-5 in the first half, but it wasn't until the 36th minute that Methodist got on the board with a goal from senior
Ashley Kolano. The Monarchs held a 1-0 lead at halftime before senior
Whitney Roberson extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the first five minutes of the second half.
Methodist finished with 17 shots to Chowan's 11. The Monarchs' junior goalkeeper
Kasey Nichols made four saves to earn her first shutout of the season while Chowan's Kristy Brown had five.
The Monarchs will take the road this weekend to compete in the Salisbury Classic Sept. 5-6.
